The HGP project has made numerous advances. By generating a map of the entire sequence, researchers can identify genes or sequences that they want. Knowledge of repeating sequences of DNA are also very important in restriction enzyme analysis, and such are used in DNA fingerprinting and the such. Perhaps more important, sequencing the genomes of other organisms, such as C. elegans, E. coli, Mus musculus, etc. lets scientists know more about what they are studying. Basically the HGP has just let scientists to understand the organisms they are using more; the ways this can be used is virtually limitless; things such as genetic testing for humans, genetic engineering and gene therapy...etc.
