I have to quit my current job immediately in order to take advantage of an opportunity that I was chosen for out of 50 people for, and just got on Friday night. The job is in a completely different field, but in a year I'll be making double of what I'm making now, and I will enjoy going to work for sure. How do I smooth my resignation over and not look bad? What should I say?

First of all, I would think LONG and HARD about whether this is the right thing to do. Companies will promise you anything to get you to work for them. Do not believe them when they say that you'll be making double in a year.

A lot of times people quit their stable jobs for these "golden" opportunities only to be disappointed and wishing they would not have left their other job.

If you do decide to start this new job, make sure you give your current employer a full two weeks' notice.

well i would hope your old job is aare you were looking at this new job, if not then you are not in a very good place. I do not know any Reputable busniess that would hire someone on a friday night to start monday, expecting them to leave a current position without 2 weeks notice, because they would not want thier employees to leave that in that same way. I would have informed the new employer that you need to give yout current employer at least a 1 week notice which is the minimum respect you would give them in the same position

Since you did not have this foresight - i would write a letter of appology explaining the situation and why you are leaving. Being honest is the best strategy - i would also offer them to work after hours of the new job to tie-up any loose ends at the old job if needed. also supply them with personal email information if they have any questions regarding projects you will be leaving incomeplete, and making yourself available for thier assistance in those matters without requiring compensation

I would be honest and tell them you were offered a better opportunity for your future and give them a two week notice. Make sure you thank them for all they have taught you and for giving you the opportunity to work for their company. You can find copies of resignation letters online.

No need to make any kind of flowery excuse. Its a move to further your life. Short and sweet. If you were friends go out to lunch.
