I need to write a report for my english class. It can be a modern woman, or someone historical. I'd especially be interested in women who influenced the film and television industries. Thanks!

Lucille Ball might be my first choice. However, Dorothy Dandridge and Diahann Carroll demanded roles of independent or upper crust black women instead of maids or other subservient roles. Entertainers like Minnie Pearl and Dolly Parton transitioned from Grand Ole Opry/vaudeville-type stage entertainment to television. Women like these opened dignified roles to women from social circles that were typically left behind in mainstream entertainment.

In film and TV:

J Lo - seriously! Think about how she influenced the media image of acceptable beauty.

Angelina Jolie!!!
She does so much good for this world, and people who bash her are either jealous or small minded. She's adopted 2 children from 3rd world countries and is on the verge of adopting a 3rd. She has donated tons of money and time to countries like Namibia. She is also a good will ambassador. She proves that it is ok for a woman to be strong, independent, and unique.
