Is it legal to run a car without a muffler?Its a 1989 Thunderbird and I cut the exhaust off about a foot after the catalytic converters. Its loud, but i dont think its louder than any Harley. Can i get a ticket for not having mufflers?

You can get a ticket . Depending on the state you live in...it may just be a ticket for the noise...or it may be completely illegal to run a car without a muffler.

depending on where you live will determine the offense you committed, in some areas they have a emissions standard that you need to maintain your vehicle at and they could make you quit driving the car until it was fixed. In other areas you may get a repair and report ticket. either way you need to put the exhaust on the car. it is also better for the car as the engine was designed to have an exhaust system.

It depends on what state you live in. Here in Maine, that is illegal. A vehicle's exhaust system must be equivalent to factory equipment.
