Consequences, according to Kant, should not be taken into consideration as determining principles, for the wrongness or goodness of a certain act. Whether the results of an act is the cause productive of pain and or of pain, it is not the matter of greatest concern. If the person performs the acts with good intentions, out of respect for the moral law, it is thereby good.
Therefore, goodness is not in the very nature of things, but is something which we can decide for ourselves.

I am sorry, I meant 'cause productive of pain and or of happiness'.
