I think it highly depends on what you are using it for. Most people want a cellphone i got to admit. But on my personal experience i got my cellphone due to the fact that i was just doing too many things at once like school activites and work and alot of stuff. Finally, i walked by a cellphone store the salesperson was a guy around my age and we managed to convince that the cellphone would benefit both the parents and me. Plus the companies now are offering family plans and all the other stuff like a free phone and stuff like that. Its a way of convincing your parents you are old enough and responsible chat. Slowly as kids are getting older parents worry about where the kids are so thats why the technology of why kids have cellphones. Its a way of allowing the parents peace of mind and a way of checking on kids in a case.

Find a cell plan that works for your need. Make a guide lines that you intend to follow. Make it organized and present to your parents. Think all the details through.
This shows that you want it bad enough to figure everything out. But don't push the matter let them think about it. Take on more responsibilities at home. Let them know you can be trusted. (Be sure to list benefits of you having the phone.)
GOOD LUCK! :)

You could always go out and make yourself look a mess and then get home late. Upon returning home explain that you had to hitch a ride with a passing stranger who attempted to feel you up; therefore, you left his car and had to run the rest of the way home. Explain that you would have called to either explain or ask for a lift- but with no phone, and no phone boxes in the area, this was difficult.
Failing this- save some money up and buy a phone? They are quite cheap nowadays.

First of all, how old are you? Are you responsible enough to have a cell phone? Perhaps your parents want to see you show them that you are responsible enough to have one. If you do not abuse the privilege of having a cell phone (for example text messaging friends, making unnecessary calls), then for safety sake, you should have one. Perhaps they can't afford for you to own one. Get a job (raking leaves in the fall, mowing grass in the spring and summer) and ask your parents if they will allow for you to pay for your own. If you do get one, SHOW RESPONSIBILITY by USING IT WISELY. If you do, your actions and good attitude will go along way in proving to your parents you can be responsible for other things too.

Tell them you'll buy it yourself, and just get a pay as you go. Then be sure to remind them that now they can get a hold of you whenever they want. You'll never have an excuse for not calling them and telling them where you are. Plus a cell phone is a good thing to have in case of emergencies!

If you really want one, why don't you get a job and purchase one with your own money? You can purchase the pre-paid phones for around $20.00 and then you can buy minutes with your paycheck.
If your parents see you being responsible for your own phone fees they may be willing to help out.

First determine and learn the difference between "want" and "need."
Do you want a cel phone? Or do you need a cel phone?
Its a responsibility and isn't free.
Do you want one because its cool and your friends have one? Or do you need one because of emergenices and other responsibilities? As long as you are dependent on your parents, its best that they decide whats best for you.

Get a job and pay for it. That will show your parents responsibility and maturity on your part, rather than typical teen expecting mommy and daddy to buy everything for them.

Try to earn money, save allowance, extra chores for a little extra and save all of it. Then possibly you can convince them to let you purchase your own prepaid phone.
