It's not the radiator cap that's missing, just the little plastic cap that covers the coolant reservoir... what you would take off to add more coolant (wonder how I lost it eh?!) ;-)

Yes, It is important. You need the cap in order to build pressure as well as keep out debris. Get one asap.

The answers saying "yes", it will damage your car, are all correct! The answer about pressurized coolant system/get a new cap asap! That's the best!

Some cars have a pressurized coolant system, like my 1986 Porsche 944 . With out the Reservoir cap or the cap that's on the radiator itself (some cars no longer have a cap on the radiator), the coolant would not circulate, my 944 would overheat in about 10 min.

No, it won't hurt the car at all. I would replace it as soon as possible so you don't get dirt into it. The fluid then can get sucked into the radiator when your car cools down after driving it. Most likely that wouldn't give you any problems but for the cost of replacing the cap, I wouldn't take the chance.

The cap helps prevent debris from getting in and keeping coolant in. Replace as soon as posible. Yes, you can drive without it for a bit.
