after 3 months I would not send a sympathy care per se because it could bring up emotions that are just starting to heal , but a thinking of you card of cope card and friendship card is always appropriate

The survivor will almost certainly be very pleased to hear from you.
Since 3 months have passed, you might consider sending them a card - Thinking of you at this difficult time - that sort of thing, rather than a gloomy, funereal sympathy card.
They will be glad to have your good thoughts and you will be glad that you finally got around to contacting them!

i lost a son 5 yrs ago and you know what if i got a card like that i would be glad cause it shows that the person that sent it was kind enough to think of you and your passing. you will never stop grieving for the one you lose.

If there is a limit, there shouldn't be. I know that when I lost my grandfather, it wasn't the people at the funeral who made me feel better.....it was the people who were still checking up on me months later.

there is no limit. It doesnt matter how long after you send a card or just say something, it is always appreciated and the family will feel grateful

I'd say three months is definitely too long.
The maximum length of time I'd allow to pass is about two weeks.
