I've only just recently stumbled into this area and was dismayed and a little surprised to see how much hostility there is from some of the men and Christians/Muslims here. It's so very similiar to the hostility between the monotheists and...well, anyone who's not a monotheist.

I'd wonder why there were so many men in here to begin with, but I imagine you'd all find that as annoying as we do in the Religion & Spirituality Section when some newb asks why the atheists are there.

What I don't understand is why there should be so much hostility towards women who are on a path to seeking equality between the genders.

How could anyone consider this a bad thing?

Tanks : Yes, I get it. The same reason atheists are in the Religion section. That's why I didn't ask. ;)

Alexandra : Yes, it does sound that way. What does your bible have to do with anything, anyway? If you choose to live your life that way, that's fine. Don't expect other people to.

Hardly anyone (OK, maybe except maybe the KKK and Aryan Nation) disagrees with the notion that ALL humans are "equal" and deserve identical rights and consideration.

The problem that many have with "feminism" is that it promotes (in some cases) INequality, not equality.

It CLAIMS to promote equality but, in fact, promotes the advancement of women, regardless as to whether that advancement creates an inequity for men or even children.

So, feminism is happy to silently accept inequality as long as it favors women.

Further, most women that post here do not want to be treated truly "equally" to men. They will say, "All we want is equality." Then, in the same breathe justify why they deserve some special treatment, protection, or should be excluded from certain undesirable responsibilities.

So, until "feminism" becomes honest about what it is really trying to achieve, it will continue to have difficulties in gaining new friends.

Nothing bothers me about being considered an equal, as I am a feminist. What most people forget to do is read up on feminism and realize that it's not about raising women to be higher than men or to change women into men. You can wear pink or frilly things and still be a feminist. I've never met a feminist who said you can't wear what you like or have to burn your bras. Anyone who says they have is beating a dead horse. Too bad people have believed Rush and his idiots and let them turn feminism into a "dirty word", so now people who believe in the basic tenets of feminism don't feel comfortable saying they are feminist.

We simply want to be treated like adults and compensated equally for the work we do. Trust us what to do with our own bodies, and stop treating us like children. There is still a lot of hatred towards women which you can see in the media, politics, and everyday life.

They also need to realize that true feminism is also working toward eradicating classism and racism along with sexism. It's all-encompassing.

I'm dismayed each time I see a surprised response like yours. There are so many double standards within the common manifestations of the women's movement, it should be obvious that there would be men in here questioning the core beliefs of feminism. Some of the "questions" aren't well thought out and are meant for nothing other than trolling, but I've asked very well thought out questions and been called a "crank" and worse. Just ignore the beavis and butthead questions and answers.

Interesting question.

I think equality is a wonderful concept. But it's not achievable. There will always be people who favor one gender over the other. And it's not just masculinity followers. Some feminists are diehard feminists and they believe that man has no place in this world.

I believe that both genders are useful. No amount of protesting or discrimination is going to change the whole world. I honestly wish there was complete equality among sexes, but unfortunately, it isn't going to happen.

I also can't stand ignorant people who generalize a certain characteristic to an entire group. A wise person acknowledges concerns from both parties and isn't quick to judge.

Most of the lost men in this section are grasping for ever fewer memories of the forgot past in America when men were the only ones who could screw up the Country. I think the ladies deserve the chance to run it for a while. With men like GWB, the barrel is obviously empty.

I've thought about this a lot and the answer I come up with is that it doesn't bother me that women are treated as equals. But I've noticed that women don't seem to be romantically interested in men who are merely their equal they seem to prefer someone who is more accomplished, makes more money and so on. This is an anecdotal observation but there does seem to be empirical evidence to support the anecdote.

So if you were a man looking for a relationship you might find equality just one more impediment to fulfillment especially if your own position is not very strong.

But I agree with you there is more of this than I thought and it is ungentlemanly, which ought to be a pretty strong criticism if a man actually does not believe in equality between the sexes.

Remember gentlemanly conduct, fellows? That's what men were supposed to shoot for back when everyone believed men were superior to women. These men are a waste even from their own perspective.

Any monotheist should examine how the Christ treated women: the Samaritan woman (when Jews of the time didn't speak to women or Samaratans); Mary and Martha; how he directed John to care for his mother while up on the torture stake; what he said of the widow ( and her 2 small coins); the significance of his telling the 2 faithful women to "go tell the men" when he arose from he grave.
Proper balence in the marriage is illustrated in the book of Ephesians, for any interested-in Ch.5: & 6:.

What bothers me about seeking equality is that I can already out-think, out-spell, out rationalize, etc the majority of men here. I have never been on Men's Health, because it matters not to me how the guys and their parts are doing.
In a word, I don't seek to aim as low as equality with some of the "men" I see on Women's Studies, and all you have to do is read their posts to find out why. They cannot be bothered to even spell check their rants and attacks. It's pitiful.
There are good men & women here who really wish to dialog and can stand to be disputed. They understand that to dialog means defending your position with out attacking your opponent. The sad thing is, they just get swamped down in the idiots like Alexandra,Izzb286, Barbara,Yank and Nobinson, et al.-- Mostly Trolls or lonely teenaged Boys.
Good luck

what bothers me is you still think men dont treat you as a equal. A strong women and theres million have been equal or even more superior to man for so long now. So my question to you is why it bothers you that men are in here ,or is it that your threaten that just maybe we need to learn more about women ourselves and what better place then in here. There's alot of men who think like you say but the mast majority is still amazed and in awe of women and wish they could be as strong as women in alot of areas. Dam maybe we would be alot happier in life if we could understand you.

People who are bothered by it seem to focus on the extremists who promote reverse bigotry rather than on the idea that everyone should be allowed the same opportunities in education and career choice.

The guys perceive their jobs have been taken away by women, that they now have to do household chores, and that their homes are not always their castles.
