Cold water will freeze more quickly due to the fact that the temperature has to be lowered that much less. The hot water's temp. needs to be lowered much more before the freezing point is reached.

Hot Water,

bdcanuck is right the faster molecular action of hot water makes it easier to freeze. But, this has to be done quickly or the water will just turn cold and it will freeze at a normal time. Either way the temperature has to be brought down to 0 degrees C before it freezes.

Air pressure also has an effect the the boiling point of water. When hikers attempt mountains like Everest they find that the altitude and lower air pressure lets water boil quicker and a slightly lower temperature.

Cold, silly girl. Think about it... on its way to freezing, the hot water gets cold. That takes time. The cold water is already there.

The theory is that hot (liquid) water is expanded more than cold (liquid) water, and therefore more closely resembles the crystal structure of ice.

H20 will boil at 100C, and freeze at 0C. Cold water has a shorter temp. gap to reach.
