My dad gave me "the talk" when I was ten. It was right before I had sex ed at school (I was in fifth grade).

From the public library, he checked out a couple of books for me to look at. He also checked out two cartoon videos that we watched together on a Saturday morning when my mom and little brother were gone. It was so embarrassing. One of the cartoons was about the changes that your body goes through during puberty, and the other cartoon was about how babies are made.

It was very embarrassing, but my dad handled it well. It's much better than the parents that don't give their kids "the talk" at all. He also told me that I could ask him any questions I had.

This was recent. I was 20 years old and I was visiting my old neighborhood. I have this friend named Laura who I decided to visit. My dad had seen her before, but that was years ago. Let's just say she had done some developing in the chest area. I guess that just got the wheels turning in my dad's head. So the next day, my dad gave me a very uncomfortable talk about life, most of which I already knew. He even thought that maybe the two of us had planned a little (whistle) action later, because we're both young, attractive people with blood flowing through our veins. But that wasn't the case. That's not to say that I wouldn't if given the chance, but where's the trust?

I'll never forget it. I was about 10 years old, they came up to me and said it's about time we talked to you about sex. So I said, Fine, what do you need to know? Dad recorded it, mom took notes, I was so proud of them that day. They both looked so cute with their curiosity. I think Dad really liked it when I hired some ladies to come in while I demonstrated what to do next. Mom was jealous though because I didn't bring in any males for her to see. So I took her down the street where there were a bunch of plumbers bending over on a job. She was a little happier with that, but still not as much as Dad.

I knew what I needed to know by 3rd grade so about 8 or so. (My mother was a pro life crusader, thankfully, I am not).
But in 5th grade I asked, at the dinner table, what oral sex was. I have 2 older sisters who choked on their dinner. My parents said, if I really want to know, to meet them in the living room after dishes were done,
We met and they told me. I have been fortunate to have parents who always answered any questions we had, no matter how difficult it was to discuss. I have been able to do the same with my daughter.

I am stunned at alot of these answers... some one actually said I was a teenager in the 80's, they didn't talk about that back then! I was born in 69, graduated HS in 87. AIDS and HIV started becoming an epidemic in the 80's. Parents MUST talk to their children about sex, sexuality and what it is to be a sexual being. So many of our parents are so repressed and they pass it on to their children. That in turn either represses the children, or out of simple curiosity, they explore their sexuality in unhealthy ways.

When I was 3, its called the Story of Adam and Eve its in the bible.

The apples grow on Eve's chest and Adam's snake starts to tell Eve that he wants to take a bite out of those apples, Then they realize they are naked and Eve has a painful child birth 9 months later.

13 and she was too late. School gym class movies explained some and the other girls explained the rest. One night she asked me if I knew about menses and I said yes and that was all there was to it....(the olden days)

When I saw my period for the first time, and my Mom had to give me a pad, she asked me if they talked to me at school about it. I told her yes, we have sex ed. She said okay and left my sexual future in the hands of public school! lol!
