the MK 1 A 40 had rod rear brakes opperated by a remote slave same as A 35 the MK 2 had full independent hyd brakes. ratio may be different depending on eng size. eng no will tell ie 10 AM- (trans type) _ (H or L for compression ratio) a 99 in prefix means special order ie police spec. if i find old A 35 parts book axle code should give ratio. try owners club for more details. X BMC 60s fitter.

As mentioned elsewhere the braking arrangements can be different. The basic axle casing is probably the same, but the final drive ratio will certainly be higher geared on the midget. I have owned both, though not at the same time

I think it would depend on what the years are of the 2 cars. I believe they both started out with a 1/4 elliptic rear suspension then later had 1/2 elliptic. Probably the same if the rear suspension was the same.
