I am a disabled vet living on disability so must do this myself. I pulled some plug wires to shut it down, and removed the key but it will not go back in. Tried WD no help. I have a same year junker but not a clue how to make the part switch please help I live in the sticks and this is my way to the grocery store. Would be nice if Uncle Sam did a better job taking care of disabled vets.

definately not a desieling problem, seems in the lock mechanical.

sounds like your switch is messed up. try spraying some wd40 in the keyswitch, if this dosen't work you may need to replace your switch.

I'm not saying this is the answer, but if the foot brake (when stopped) is not depressed before putting into park it can cause the trans detent for the ignition cylinder lock to bind. The same also applies if one of the front wheels is binding on a curb from a slight roll of not setting the emergency brake before shifting into park.

It sounds like the ignition switch and/or associated mechanism is worn out. The actual switch is not that expensive, but may not be easy to acesss.
If you have access to a schematic, perhaps hot wire the ignition to by-pass the switch as temporary work-around.

I think I'd consider switching the steering column with your parts car.It sounds as though there's some sort of internal problem with the lock itself,which is difficult to deal with if you aren't experienced.Good luck and thanks for putting in your time for us.

Your ignition is bad. To shut it off just unplug the coil wire.

its the switch.its bad.until you get it fixed,just pull the hot wire that goes into the dist.
