RAM can and does help to determine the overall speed of a computer. I've seen computers with 1.8GHz-2.4GHz processors with 1GB RAM run extremely slow.
It's all about how clean you keep your hard drive, how active you are on it, etc.
2GB is A LOT of memory. And if you're just a casual user, you know, like Internet, e-mail, IM'ing, etc., you're more likely to run into slower performance than someone with 2GB RAM that does a lot of powerful work, like graphic design or something.
Because if you're a casual user, you're allocating about 10-20MB of memory, in a random memory address (hence, RAM = RANDOM Access Memory), in 2GB space. Which is about 1/200 - 1/100 of the total RAM size.
When you close that application, or require it to allocate more memory, and the application's memory block starts close to the end of the 2GB RAM, it will take quite a bit longer to access the application's memory segment in RAM than if you were using 1/4 - 1/2 the RAM.
I have 256MB RAM, and I run Visual Studio .NET 2005 Pro (programming), Photoshop CS2, 3D Studio Max 6, Maya 6, and a lot of other productivity software, on Windows 2000 with Pentium III 733MHz, and I have no problems whatsoever.
But I would be able to work in more than 2 or 3 of those programs at once if I had 1GB-2GB RAM with a little bit faster performance. Compared to if I was running Notepad and Internet Explorer.
I wish I still had the URL for the article where my information came from. I found it sometime last year, so don't credit me for it. =P

If you're talking about your computer having only 2GB (nothing more and nothing less), then it is slow. This could only mean that your computer could be a Pentium II or earlier, and the RAM is very small. But if you have a Pentium III or earlier, and your total memory is 2GB only, then the problem is the memory stick. Replace the memory stick with 40GB of memory. The Pentium IV, can handle 200GB of memory and it has four slots for four memory sticks.

is it slow or fast to what, if your talking about memory, its more memory than 1gb, but if your application only needs 512mb then the extra gb doesn't do anything.

2GB is ok when i comes to computers.
if it is RAM, then your computer is in fine condition.
if you mean 2GB in other terms, such as Gigahertz, then that is also good.
so, in RAM or GHz, it is Fast.

GB is not measured in speed. if you mean it is good space tan i'll say it depends. If it is in a flashdrive then. sure
