Take a lot of classes in the area that you want to go to grad school in, study really hard and bring up your gpa. then apply again. For instance, if I wanted to go to grad school for psychology but I was rejected, I would take a few more psychology classes, make sure I studied hard and got the best grades possible (4.0) and that would help to raise my overall gpa as well as my psychology gpa. I would also start volunteering or get an internship in the psychology field such as mentoring youth or volunteering at the hospital on the psych floor. I would also get to know my professors, maybe be a research assistant. They could write you some excellent letters of recommendation.

If you really want to go to grad school you have to show them that you are willing to work your butt off. Bring up your grades and get involved in the field by volunteering or doing internships. Good Luck!!!

I got rejected two times from grad school before finally getting in. After the admissions process is over (around APril), you should contact some of the heads of programs you were interested in and ask them through email what could have been different about your application and what they are looking for. This can be a daunting task, but it's worth it because it will give a good idea of what can be improved on your application. Meanwhile, you should try finding a job in your field, preferably working at a university as a research assistant, this will look great on your resume and will give you something to talk about on your application next year. Also, try to figure out if you need to re-take your GREs or take more courses in order to improve your GPA.
most importantly, don't give up hope, some times it takes more than one try (and sometimes even two tries) to get in. Getting into graduate school is more often than not a matter of fit between you and the program. Next year when you apply again, make sure you are applying to programs where faculty interests match your own to a tee, and try to contact some professors before you are applying to get your foot in the door.
keep your head up, and good luck!

Other than crying and eating ice-cream and Publix cake for a good five hours I would move on. Suck it up and apply to another school. At least one school in the country has to take you. It's really not the end of the world. If a school won't except you on the major that you want to do consider taking up another major that is relatively close to the one that you want to do and REAPPLY. Also consider whom your references are and possible get new ones.

(1) Not the end of the world: just another obstacle that you have to pass in order to reach your goal.
(2) What is life without obstacles? Easy. And who said life was easy? No one.

Apply at more schools. Don't get discouraged. Take a few more classes, or get some more real life experience in your field. Prepare to reapply next year with a bolder, more impressive application.

Good luck!

Get a job that is applicable in your field. Then reapply later as the admissions people will feel that you will get ten times more out of the program with ANY real world experience.

First, I'd cry.
Second, I'd find another graduate school that would accept me.
Third, if that fell through, I'd do my best to find a good job with the degree I have.
