Lee was a very bold commander, and Jackson was the only subordinate commander who was aggressive enough to fully execute Lee's plans. Jackson was also very successful in independent operations. Both Lee and Jackson were irreplaceable--and together they were greater than the sum of the parts.

The odds against the Confederacy were enormous from the very beginning. Even those small odds of victory became a forlorn hope when Jackson fell.

The loss of Stonewall Jackson really effected General Lees ability to effectively move his Army. Jackson was a General that Lee relied upon and was able to make his own decisions and the right decision on the battlefield. Certainly his death saved allot of Union lives. And it has been debated often about what would have happened at Gettysburg had Jackson been there.

By conducting firstly a vigorous defence and then a decisive counteratack he guaranteed a Confererate/Rebel (Southern) victory at he battle of Frst Bull Run/ First Manassas in 1861. Otherwise with a Union/ Federal (Northern) victory in this battle and a subsequent capture of Richmont, Va, (the Confedrate capital) the Civil War (otherwhise known as the ''War between the States'' ) may have ended in 1861 instead of 1865
