I know I'm getting carried away but we're hoping for a baby. I'm due for my period in a few days. I used a sensitive HPT that can detect 7-10 days after conceiving and it came up neg. I did it again about 4 days later it came up with a faint but definate second line. I went to the doctor the next day for a urine test and it came up neg. I waited another 2 days and it's still neg. Im guessing its a false positive? I also read that a baby has a 50/50 chance of making it through the first month. Is it worth testing again after my period is due or late or would you write this off as a not pregnant?

There is no such thing as a false positive. The only way there could kinda be a false positive, is if you waited until after the 10 minute time frame to read the result--and read an evaporation line as a positive. (Ev. lines have no color and show a gray line where there could've been a positive line.)

SO, since you have what sounds like a positive test, I think you may be pregnant.

Here's maybe where you ran into problem with the first negative test...7-10 days AFTER conception...is essentially around when you should get your period. It's not 7-10 days after you ovulate.... because you ovulate and then it takes at least 6 days for the egg to travel down the fallopian tubes and implant itself.

The DRs tests may've been less sensitive.

with my first pregnancy, it took me until a month after my expected period to actually figure out--for sure--that I was pregnant. I literally took 15 hpts to get a clear positive line.

My suggestion? Wait until 1-2 days before your period (or until the day of your period if you can wait) and test again with the sensitive test. Use the website below to figure out which tests are more sensitive. keep in mind that 25 is more sensitive than 100...

I've worked in a lab, and I have heard that home pregnancy tests are not the gold standard on predicting pregnancy. Lab testing is more accurate. Given that the seond line was faint on the "false positive", I would attribute it to physiological glitch, nevertheless it can be significant so another test is best.

I would test again with your doctor if your period is late. Sometime those early response ones do give out false negativess and positive. I have had a few pf the false positive ones.

Sorry to say it, but I've been in your shoes and 99% sure that you aren't pregnant. I've been through the same scenario so many times that my husband finally told me not to even test until my period was 1 week late. Depressing but good advice all the same.

Girl, I wish pregnancy test wouldnt mess with you like that!!! I think this sounds like a neg. to me. I think that if you were preg. it would come out at least more then once. You can test again, but it might not be worth it. Good luck sweetie.

I would say it's negative, but if you really want to pursue this, go to the doctor for a blood test. The blood test is 100% accurate.
