My husband and I were using a condom and it broke. I was on about Day 14 of my cycle. I just had a miscarriage and D&C in January. I can't physically or emotionally handle a pregnancy right now, so soon! I should have used a few backup methods and counted my days. Lesson learned.

I took Plan B 3 hours after the incident, and the 2nd pill 12 hours later. I've heard that it works really well before ovulation, in preventing it, but that there's really no data that supports Plan B working effectively if you're ovulating that day or had just ovulated the day before.

Does anyone have any experience or insight? I have learned my lesson and won't put myself in this position again, but I don't know how I'm going to survive the 2 week wait because this feels devastating to me. I feel like my life is ending and I'm really scared.

Thank you for any answers.

To add to my concern, I've read studies on the internet that say that because it's a high dosage of oral contrceptives, the following is true:

"Plan B is a contraceptive, not a “drug that terminates a pregnancy after conception”. It prevents ovulation in case it hasn’t already happened, just like other birth control pills already do. It has not been shown to prevent pregnancy in the event that ovulation has already occurred.

That is why I am scared. They did studies on women by measuring their LH levels and predicting their ovulation times, and studies on rats and monkeys as well. I've lived on the internet freaking out since this happened Thursday night. I'm just as afraid that if it's post-ovulation or fertilization that it will end up being ectopic. I guess I just want guarantees and in this situation there are none. Thanks.

at any time, remember you CAN NOT USE plan b as a method of birth control, this is an emergency pill, but you have to take it within 72 hours after the unprotected intercourse you are concerned about, so in your case you are safe... in 10 days buy a home pregnancy test, good luck!

Plan B doesn't impact ovulation. It impacts the lining of the uterus.
Plan B is not for regular birth control.

It does not matter when you are ovulating. The plan B causes you to start your period. So no matter what time of the month it should work!
