u might wanna rephrase ur question. u've got to be more specific. beat them how? in a fight? from a technical music stand point? out anger them? out sell them in record stores? perhaps impact in modern music?
to some questions i say no. but to most i say yes. pantera is certianly not the end all be all of metal by any means, despite being among my favorite bands.

Better is pretty subjective, but Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Anthrax are probably at least as good.

Iron Maiden, Metallica and Helloween are way better than pantera in terms of their MUSIC but hey that only my opinion.....
