If it's on ebay be careful. You really need to get the seller to specify what they mean. Refurbish can mean anything from a wipe with an oily rag up to a manufacturer service with all working parts replaced.

Doesn't necessarily mean there was ever anything wrong with it. Legally there are circumstances when a vendor cannot sell something as 'New'. It can sometimes means something as minor as an item being returned to the store, but missing the manual or a cord. This means it has to go back to the manufacturer to be repackaged and must now be labeled as 'Refurbished'.

It means that the product is used (or had problems), but was returned to the manufacturer and they repaired the item and selling it again.
Personally I don't see anything wrong with buying refurbished items.. I bought refurbished ipod from apple website and it works great!
cheers!

Refurbished could mean :
- it was broken and repaired by the manufacturer but cant be sold as new
- it was returned to the manufacturer as "opened stock", fully functional but not sellable as new sealed box
- over-stock and returned to the manufacturer because a newer model came out

basically you dont know what you are getting and need to be aware that most "refurbs" dont come with standard warranty if any

It means its been in for repair and then goes back on sale as refurbished. Mobile phones operators often do that if a handset has to replaced. More often than not it will replaced by a refurbished handset. virgin Mobile often sell refurbished handsets in their stores.
