alfred hitchcock's 'lifeboat', recent 'titanic' (1997). on tv, and subject to reruns, you always have the 'gilligan's island'. it's comedy but you do have all people attended from different stations in life marooned on a desert island...well, you get the idea. i'm sure you've seen the show. there is one book, written about 40-50 years ago, it's title eludes me, where a plane-loan of socially prominent boys from the best english families crashes on a desolate island in the pacific and it's all men/boys to themselves. the social order, what once was, exists no longer & they becomes more beast than the beasts on the island. it was made into a movie about the 1960s & again int he 1980s (with american boys this time) but the whole plot was based on the premise that 'man (and woman) will always rise to the level expected & the unexpected.

I cant remember the name of the book but its about an island where they carved massive statues and destroyed all the trees on the island in the process, and themselves. It is not a work of fiction. easter island comes to mind.birdmen and stuff like that. anyway failing that . what about Gulliver's travels.

2 movies come to mind but I can't remember the names of them.
One had Harrison Ford and Anne Heche.
The other one, Anthony Hopkins and Elle McPherson.
