I am straight and wish there were loads of gay men as it gives me more chance of getting it on. So I think the only reason someone can be homophobic is because deep down men turn them on and they don`t like to admit it so they try to cover it up by being aggressive

your first sentence hits the nail on the head- why get annoyed when it gives you more chances?

the limited empirical research suggests that men who hold homophobic views were significantly more likely to elicit a sexual response when presented with homoerotic material i.e. it turned them on (see link 1 below). the theory goes that their homophobia is an attempt to sublimate feelings within themselves.

also, it's also to do with the fact that some ppl will pick on any minority group regardless of their own orientation. if an individual holds discriminatory views about other minority groups, then it seems they also are likely to be homophobic (link 2).

In my experience it is a certain type of straight male that is homophobic (aside from the religious nuts),they tend to be men that are very 'manly' and try their utmost to keep a certain image. They are also the most insecure regarding their sexuality. They don't seem to realise that 'real' men are the ones completely at ease with sexuality and therefore don't find gay men a threat.
I do agree that a large percentage of them are also in denial about their own identity and think that they can throw people off the scent by being homophobic-sorry to tell you guys though that the more you protest the more obvious it is!!

I don't have a problem with gay men. I think that its wrong to say all straight men fancy every single women they see, so it is equally qrong to think that gay men fancy all the guys they meet.

Of course you will meet some guys that just want sex (either with a women or man) but overall it's down to the person.

As long as they don't yell loudly and talk with a high pitched voice i'm fine with them.

I am fine with guys, who are just normal sane guys, but just happen to like men instead of women. It's the loud ones that bug me.

I think it`s because they don`t see them as `proper` men, more a half man and half woman hybrid, who are open to ridicule and potential violence especially if they are camp. I`m a woman and I find the camp ones hilarious but a bit sad at the same time. This Q probably didn`t get a main page post as it was deemed a bit near the knuckle to Yahoo`s violation of their Answers Community Guidelines......

Most straight men don't hate gays, but most straight men are uncomfortable with homosexual sex.

Why? Most men don't think of men as sexual objects. The thought of something they consider non-sexually appealing as being "sexually appealing" is uncomfortable for a lot of people.

It's like old people having sex. I fully support the rights of senior citizens to an active sex life, just as long as I don't have to watch it myself.
