When I was deleting some old files on my Windows XP, I accediantly deleted my sound card and now I have no sound. I hear some of the sounds through the tower of my computer. I tried to reinstall the sound card through the drives cd the came with my computer but I get an error messege that says, "Driver not found, rebot your system and run this set-up again." Am I installing the wrong audio driver? Is there a sound card that I can download online? Thanks in advance!!!

I also looked under my audio devices in control panel and it has no sound card listed.

Hi,

Right click on My Computer than Manage and than Device Manager. Under the "Sound, video and game controllers", look if theres any type of question mark. Ignore the Legacy and Audio Codecs listed, just look for anything else there is. If there's a question mark, than it's easy (righclick-update drivers), if not, under Action tab (top bar) click "Scan for hardware changes". Wait for a while, until it detects the sound card and than continue installing the drivers from your cd/drive where you have them.

As about the error you're getting, it's because the folder you're looking into doesn't contain the proper drivers for you soundcard. Just look elsewhere, or (if you know the name of the manufacturer of your card) look up the drivers at their site.

I hope I could help,
Regards,
TK

Well it is not too late to restore your system. If you deleted the sound card (for example, last week or so), it is possible to restore the system to the time before you deleted the sound card. Instead of re-installing programs from the Internet, and buying a new CD-Installer, just Restore your system. You said, that while reinstalling the sound card, there was an error right? Well, if you use 'System Restore', the sound card will be restored with no hastle at all. Just select the date prior the deletion of the sound card.

First., go to Device Manager and uninstall your sound card. Honest, do it. Then, when you reboot it should say Hardware Found. This is where you put the drivers in the CD?DVD drive and let Windows search for drivers. This is the best way.

what sound card do you have? You probably have corrupted drivers...do a search for the drivers after you have found the make of the sound card....or place the sound card details on here, so as to get a sure answer;-)

i have had this problem before
u can resore it using system restore
i tried to do that but the length of time it can restore is just so long.

the other way is to do the system recovery
ONLY DO THIS IF IT IS THE LAST RESORT
you can do this by pressing F10 a lot of times during boot up
that's how my pc got the sound back
