Last weekend for the first time in my life I saw a sign at an intersection with traffic lights and cross walk lights that said: Caution pedestrians, look for vehicles making turns. Twenty years ago there weren't signs like that because pedestrians took the time to look and see that it was safe to cross, and drivers looked to see if they were going to hit somebody if they made a turn. Where is this all headed? Signs in front of a pool: caution WET. Signs in front of a lawn: caution GREEN. I am ashamed for people visiting from other nations to see such things. What do you think? Am I being negative or have you noticed similar things?

I hate to say it but i agree a lot of americans have become lazy they think that they are owed something. Children are in charge of homes parents unable to teach and discipline. in my town stop signs now mean slow down. The communities used to work together now if you correct someones child you may be cursed at or (as they say) beat down. It takes a village to raise a child. And communication within a village to keep it same and help all to survive through the good and bad times.

Zilla, if you think it's bad in America head over to Europe. There was a story out of Denmark where two Muslim hoodlums started beating the heck out of some Danish businessman heading home for the day on a train full of people. The man was nearly beat to death and not a single person tried to help. In Europe they are pampered by the Welfare state and are nearly incapable of feeling no less standing up a fellow citizen in danger.

If you've ever read Plato's The Republic--he talks about people living their whole lives in a cave where they are chained into a single position where they are fed and given amusement. When someone escapes and experiences the multitude of life's experiences and then comes back to spread the good word, nobody listens in the cave. They're content with their sorry little lives as they are because they are provided for. Why take the risk of seeking Truth outside the cave, right?

In America it's not quite that bad but we're headed there. Who needs faith, family, and civic-mindedness when you've got a posh job and social security? The West has ditched the First Things in life--God, marriage, childbearing, patriotism--for pettier things like health care and government-provided child care. If you want to fix things give the individual more control over his or her life. They will naturally turn to faith and family as they did 'back in the day.' Say no to the welfare state and things will turn for the better.

I have seen worse. I once saw an article about a woman that left drain cleaner where her 4-year-old could reach it. You guessed it. He drank it, and was left with devastating life long disabilities. She sued and won because the bottle "only" said "Danger! Corrosive. Harmful or fatal if swallowed." But it did not say "Keep out of reach of children". So she said she had no idea she should have kept it away from him. I say if she was that dumb, the kid should have been taken from her.

I have seen "Do not eat" on boxes of staples.

And you always hear of someone being injured or killed trying to imitate something they saw on TV. And I am talking about adults, not children.

I think people are getting dumber by the minute.

I think this is happening all over the world. We are ALL becoming a bit stupid, due to health and safety rules and regulations. We have to be so careful and post signs everywhere so no one can claim later on that they were hurt due to someone else being negligent. Now we have to warn anyone of impending danger so no one gets sued later on! It really is silly.
So yes to your answer but it is not just an American problem.

Lol. I think you're over-reacting a bit. I wonder what the middle class in ancient Rome was like and if they got 'fat and stupid' too, like you claim we are.

I think it is because people don't want to get sued for anything. People do like to sue people of the stupidest things.
