One of the people who has been most famus recently for the view that there was no holocaust is the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad. This idea is very rarely presented with anything resembling evidence that the holocaust didn't happen. Part of the reason for people using this view is that the Holocaust was the main cause of the establishment of the modern state of Israel, and people who don't recognize Israel as a legitimate country also choose not to believe in the holocaust that caused what they believe is an occupation of Palestinian land.

Allot other people choose not to believe in things for political, or other reasons. Just as the Germans would say that they did not know what was happening, and how they were not Nazis'.

I live in Germany and it did happen. If you visit a concentration camp after a light rain you can still smell the death coming up from the ground. It is something that you can feel. You know it happened.

There are people that do not believe that Columbus discovered America, that the US Civil War was not about slavery, and that the US never landed on the moon. People believe what the want to often despite the facts.

My thought is that some people are more dedicated to their faith in an idea than in examining evidence for themselves. One can always find support for crazy ideas, and some people who have them find validation in convincing others.

The larger theme is based in hate and mistrust. If someone believes that 1 plus 1 equals instant death to those who disagree with me, there is little chance that they will change their minds.

Many years ago I had the thought that human imagination is almost limitless. Therefore, no holocaust.

How do people think there is a devil or god? Most people confronted by these ideas have never seen it and have to take it on belief. And no one can be MADE TO believe anything they don't want to (for whatever reason).
Some people believe the earth is flat and that we have not been to the moon. It is a choice they make.

They think it because people have told them it did not exist, simply because the Germans under Hitler were ashamed (well, the good ones anyway). There are still many Nazi's who have not been found that committed some of the worst war crimes to the jewish people. Of course, most of them have died by now, but there are still many Nazi's out there who do not want anyone to believe this horrible thing existed. Believe me, it existed. I have seen people who have had the tattoos from being in the concentration camps. You need to read "Exodus", by Leon Uris. Excellent book, if you can stand to see the pictures.

People do not like to take responibility for actions, be it past or present. Although they may not have partaken in the events of the holocauset, they find it easier to simply pretend it never occurred. One major flaw of the human race is we find it difficult to accept what we have done and learn from it.
