I am watching Sum of all Fears and i noticed something. Everytime you see places in Russia in movies, its always a dark seting. the people always are in the shadows or coming out of them when shown.

It goes to the images set in the Russian Revolution and in the Cold War, of fuel shortages and bitter cold and of religious persecution. The darkness you see is the absence of spirit in the area.

A lot of the time, Russia is viewed as the 'losers' of the Cold War. Who did they lose to? America. Thus, they're portrayed as something frayed, almost wrecked, because the USA tea bagged 'em.

Russia is usually the enemy in the movies so they make it dark and dreary to get that point across
