I feel your pain. I used to have a bunion (just about done recovering from surgery!)
If you really want to wear heels, look for something with a heel no taller than 2 to 2 1/2 inches high. Rounded toes I found always fit me best. You can also try a wider size shoe, which may help.
Ballet flats are very popular and don't hurt like heels do. Remember: your shoes will probably come off after photos while you're on the dance floor.

Well, the majority of shoes do hurt, but I find that cheaper shoes are the most uncomfortable. However, just trying on lots of different types will give you an idea. Make sure to wear the shoes around the house to break them in, because if the material is more flexible, it will give your feet room where they need it. Another thing to try is foot petals, they make formal shoes so much more comfortable!

I would go with a flat shoe with beading etc that goes with oyur dress. Personally I can't walk with regular high heels so I wear wedged shoes which might be good as an option. Try a pair before the prom and see if it hurts.

I think this is what you are looking for...enjoy your prom!
Listen up, shoe fashionistas. Cole Hahn has teamed up with Nike to create a high heel that is stylish and comfortable. Remember the days of fashion before comfort and the need to suffer for beauty’s sake? Your feet need not suffer anymore. With the Cole Haan Nike Air high heel collection utilizing Nike Air cushioning, you can wear sexy heels that feel comfortable too.
My introduction to the Cole Hahn Nike Air high heel came from reading a recent issue of In Style magazine. I thought the comfortable yet stylish high heels by Cole Haan were a great idea. I have often wished for the existence of a high heel that was stylish and comfortable. If I can dance comfortably and look good all night, Cole Hahn Nike Air high heels are worth their weight in gold.
Oprah loves Cole Haan Nike Air high heels as well. The daytime talk show host interviewed Gordon Thompson, the genius behind the Cole Haan Nike Air collection of high heel shoes. Each high heel shoe of the Cole Haan Nike Air collection utilizes Nike Zoom air bag technology to cushion the ball and heel of the foot. By lining the interior of these Cole Haan Nike Air heels with strategically placed Nike Zoom air bags, the stress and pain caused by the weight transfer from the raised heel to the toe is counterbalanced.
Not only are these high heels more comfortable than a high heel of another brand of the same height, Cole Haan Nike Air high heels are quite fetching as well. The Cole Haan Nike Air collection of high heels comes in a wide variety of styles including boots, wedges, platforms, pumps, Mary Janes and sling backs. Each high heel of the Cole Haan Nike Air collection comes in a few variety of colors and fabrics that completely change the look of the shoe, and each Cole Haan Nike Air high heel averages three to four inches in height.
These envy inspiring Cole Haan Nike Air high heels cost around $275 with boots being more expensive in the $300 to $400 range. Two hundred and seventy five dollars may sound expensive, but if you think about it, shoes are a lot like transportation. They get you from point A to point B. If you compare the cost of a Cole Haan Nike Air high heel to the cost of the most economical car out there, two hundred and seventy five bucks is still a lot cheaper than an automobile. Furthermore, in the world of shoes, Cole Haan is like the Lexus of automobiles. In that case, you’re getting a luxury vehicle at a bargain basement price! How’s that for rationalization?
Before the Cole Haan Nike Air collection, other companies such as Aerosoles and Easy Spirit have offered high heels that are comfortable, too. You’ve probably noticed the ads in fashion magazines for the cute Aerosoles wedges. However, Aerosoles lacks the sexiness of the Cole Haan designer name, and Easy Spirit receives even less fanfare because of its Aunt Myrtle image.
If a Cole Hahn Nike Air high heel is out of the question and not in your budget (sigh), you can still experience a little more comfort from your existing high heels by purchasing a stick on insert from the foot apparel section of any mass merchandise store. Foot inserts cost anywhere between $4 and $12. I’ve received complimentary shoe inserts from department stores upon request as well.
