heres a link http://www.emginc.com (copy paste) I am about to buy an epiphone les paul black beauty and I play a variety of music. I would like to be able to play some hard metal on a Les Paul. When I mentioned this at the local music shop they seemed discusted. Are they wrong?

The short answer is no, it will not make the guitar distort "better".

Instead, experiment with your amp and any other external effects you might have to achieve the sound you want.

I would not recommend taking out your Les Paul pickups and putting in emg pickups! You will destroy the value of your guitar. If you want distortion, get a pedal or an amp with distortion. Where did you get this idea? Listen to your music shop guys on this one honey! Just get a pedal.
