What a lovely question! Play station is to blame not perverts as your kids would only be playing outside your front door. I used to play May I and Ball dog does any one remember those ? Those were the days xx

Yes and I feel there are three main reasons for this:
1) The internet and computer games allow them to be entertained and have "company" with out going out.
2) Many parents are concerned about the many dangers to children when they are outside, that were not as prevalent as when we were kids.
3) Since the baby boom is over, there are not as many kids and the school districs are larger making it hard for kids to play with their school friends without having to travel a good distance.

Yes, I've sure noticed that. I account for it because guilty, working parents think that they need to occupy every single second of their child(ren)s lives with organized activities. Kids need some free time to play with other kids in the neighborhood. Parents COULD take turns keeping an eye on all of the children--if they had any desire to.

I'm a child now, and my parents and I agree: childhood is much harder now than it ever was. My mother used to walk all the way to the mall when she was a kid, because there weren't any kidnappers. Today, children can't even play out in their lawn without supervision. Also, we have computers, TVs, and iPods that keep us preoccupied instead of playing outside.

I agree with you, being a child now is not easy, can't let them out for fear of being taken, shot, etc etc... Leave them in thehouse and they have all those video games, televsion, music, and no exercise. No wonder kids are obese these days.

Too bad, we cannot give the children back their innocence and let them be children

When i was younger there would always be a group of kids playing foootball, basketball, kickball, or hide and seek out on my street, but now when i look out the window there is rarely a kid out there.

I miss the old days! Darn video games!!

i say welcome to the age of technology where TV replaces parks, and computers replace the board games.

and then again there is the point of letting your kids go outside, turn around and they vanish or are hit by a car or mauled by a dog...

that is why we moved house to a cul-de-sac with a large round patch of grass in the middle. everyones kids are out there and we can all keep an eye on them from the house.

In my neighborhood, kids are outside all the time. I really think the media has done such a fine job of scaring the heck out of people that its shortchanging our kids-that's a shame.
