Skopje is a city in Macedonia, which is just north of Greece. It exists...I've been there a couple of times.

Skopjeslavia? There is no such country.

F.Y.R.O.M. stands for Former Yugoslavian Republic Of Macedonia. Name of the country is Macedonia and its capital city is Skopje (pronounced Skopye). It used to be part of former Yugoslavia until 1992. That's how you've probably mixed up. Probably she considers herself Yugoslavian, which is more common for children of mixed marriages. People of Macedonia are called Macedonians, there are also large Albanian and Turkish minorities. Macedonians are to large extent Orthodox Christians, while Turks and Albanians are Muslims. Muslim Macedonians are called Torbesh. About 50% are Orthodox and 45% Muslim. Total population of Macedonia is slightly over 2 million.

They call it FYROM because Greeks made some problems, they say the country cannot be called Macedonia because Macedonia is name of a land in northern Greece.

As far as I know it is a colloquial term for Macedonia, a country north of Greece whose capital is the city of Skopje. The Macedonians are an ethnic group with Greek, Bulgar and Slavic blood. The name is not used on maps.
