no, i do not agree with it. it is a perfect (final, ultimate, etc) punishment carried out by the imperfect. it is wrong on many different levels. your question is very interesting though (10K killers for 1 innocent). i think most conservatives will answer this with yes. conservatives are ok with death (except fetuses) and sacrifice of life.

Your hypothetical is interesting . . . . 10,000 versus 1 . . . .
If there was the TRUE alternative of "life sentences" I'd probably say no, but in reality there are no such things as guaranteed life sentences. There is always the possibility that some liberal, bleeding heart judge, parole board, governor or whatever would reduce the sentence and the thug would be back on the streets doing his thing.
Death sentences should be reserved for the worst offenses, such as killing a child. In fact, there should be mandatory death penalty for murder. With DNA testing and other improvements in forensic science it is becoming ever more difficult to wrongly convict people.
Still . . .10,000 versus 1 . . . .
Yes, it is worth it. If only a tenth of those 10,000 would commit another murder and were prevented from doing so you would save 1000 lives. If a tenth of them were children you've saved 100. If just one grew up to be a Gandhi or Mother Theresa . . . . . well, I'd feel good about it at least.

100%. In fact, I believe that the death penalty should be extended to those convicted of sexual predatory crimes (the highest recidivism of all types of crimes), as well as those who are convicted of violent crimes against children.
Prison overpopulation is a serious problem in this country, and one way to alleviate it is to put certain implements to the task for which they were designed and built. To those who claim that it is an imperfect system, I would agree; however I would point out that all Man-made systems are flawed, but they are still the best we have. If executing 1,000 violent offenders and sexual predators means we might get one Innocent man (even if that man was me), I would weigh that against the greater good of preventing 100,000 people from becoming victims.
As for the fetus comment, I never have understood the hypocrisy of those who favor abortion (the killing of an innocent, unborn being), yet despise capital punishment (the execution of someone who has had the chance to contribute to society, but has chosen to prey upon it, instead).

Yep, I believe in the death penalty,, not because I think its some kind of deterrent, but because people with life sentences place a burden on the tax system, so i think the death penalty should be extended to anyone with a life sentence without possibility of parole.

No, I like thinking that the creep that did something awful is wasting away than getting the easy way out. Anyways, in the long run it cost more money to give them the death penalty than to let them sit in prison for the rest of their life.

YES why should our tax dollars be spent housing and feeding murderers? AND sending them to school for FREE. It's almost desirable to be in jail. You get everything for FREE while the tax payers pay for it all.
If you were caught red handed with out a shadow of a doubt, then it should be a mandatory death march.
Why should the be rewarded with free food, shelter, clothing, regular exercise, books, free school, ectectect??

i agree with the concept of the death penalty, but there needs to be some major improvements in weeding out the people who aren't actually meant to be on death row.
