If this were your chosen profession, would you be confined to work on projects on only one certain event, time period, or place? For examply, would you have to go to school to be a archeaologist that studies Rome. Or could you go to school to be an archaeologist in general, so you can work on different projects that range from, say, 1millionBC - Present?

most people that study archaeology and eventually receive a phd in it specialize in a region. in fact, you pretty much have to in order to write a thesis or dissertation. because each sub-disclipine of archaeology is so specialized, you will need to concentrate on that region and time period.

well if u want to be an archeologist ...

i think it s necessary to focus on something .. for example here in austria if you study archeology you can focus on roman or greek archeology

and there is much more ... like underwater archeology. and so many different civilizations to explore .

and it s just way too much to know all and have profound knowledge of all civilizations and ancient languages etc.

so learn basics at school and then focus on a field u are interested i would say.

You can work on everything, but if you want to be really good, better specialise and get to know the researched culture really well.
