Im in DNA lab in colledge and i swab my cheeks a lot,but i never get a good amount of cheek cells for dna.My American friend Sandra swabbed my cheeks vigouresly,didnt work well either.

You could always include a razor blade in the swab and get a better reaction sample for your DNA testing. A nick in time saves nine.

In addition to swabbing your cheeks, you can also swab under your tongue and along your gums. Also, some protocols say to swab twice (each time with a different swab) and then put everything into the tube of saline...that way you get twice as many cells for the same DNA extraction.

Hi! I remembered when I was in Primary 4 or 5, I was asked to do a practical on observing cheek cells. I used a toothpick and scrap the inside of my cheek gently. Don't scrap too vigorously as you will damage the cell. I rotated to toothpick as I scrap. After that, I smear it on a slide, put a drop of water (I am not that sure, forget some already) and put to specimen on stage. haha. I look into the microscope and an average amount of cheek cells there. You can try it. I hope this helps. =)

make sure that when you are swabbing that you roll the swab and not just rub. otherwise you're going to end up with more saliva than epithelial tissue

you have to lightly chew the insides of your mouths first.
dont swalow either
