Hello, I'm Italian so sorry my poor English. I think that my country is so beautiful and it's nice to see foreigners coming here. Not for your dollars ;) but because we have very different ways of living and different landscape, and it's great to show you we are not only "mafia, pizza e mandolino" ! In the same way, most of Italians love your country, and America is often the "wonderful travel" we dream... The Americans I saw here in Italy seems nice and kind, unfortunately I've never known in person nobody that lives here.
Ciao from Italy!
PS Thank you in Italians means "grazie"

Hi, I'm American and I live in Italy (have been here 8 years now). Well, it depends on what type of American. If you are loud and obnoxious they won't like you, but if you are nice and sweet and have good manners they will treat you the same way. Try learning a bit of Italian (only tourist Italian is okay)...I've seen that if you try to speak their language they are a lot friendlier to you. Well, Italy is a beautiful country so I hope you will be able to visit it soon. I recommend visiting the lesser known and not-so-touristy cities....you will get more of the "authentic" Italian feel.
