I thought they all sucked except for the last one which rocked.

Maybe because it's more dark, the actor playing Batman is younger and more athletic, no nipplies on the Batsuit, and Schumaker was no where near the premises when the film was in production.

It all depends on how you define success. The original Burton/Schumacher Batman earned $250 million (by 1989 standards) while Batman Begins received $200 million. Yet, the original Batman movie costed $35 million to make (plus marketing) and pulled in $250 million whereas Batman Begins costed $150 million to make and made $200 million. So revenue wise, the original Batman made more.

Batman Begins was successful though not because of the original Burton Batman movie but more because of how much of a downward spiral into campiness that the Batman franchise entered into. By the time Batman and Robin hit, they could really not do anything else but re-launch the franchise in a serious light.

This is The Batman movie wherein they explored Bruce Wayne's transition from Prince of Gotham to nameless vigilante to Batman and then they are now making there way to dub him as The Dark Knight.
Perhaps we liked it so much because of the psychology of the movie.
Also, Sir Michael Cain is just exquisitely excellent. Now that is an Alfred that will crack the whip needed to rein in the Prince of Gotham.
Perhaps if I didn't like Christian Bale so much, I'd fully buy him as Bruce Wayne. It's rather distracting to watch him and not think of him as Christian Bale. One of the things I liked about Bale's performance is that he made the distinction very clear, of Bruce and Batman with his voice. Bruce is the aloof, light almost headtone voice, Batman he gave the gravelly rumble. That's part of the psychology.
And for every superhero movie, you need a good villain to get a good story. The R.A.Ghul's a fine choice, because he's a concept, like Batman. Again the psychology of the film.
Let's wait for the next one and mull things over then, see the developments.

Because Michael Keaton was horribly miscast as Batman, and both of the ones he did sucked azz IMHO.

Val Kilmer was alright, but NOT a good Batman. Ditto George Clooney.

Christian Bale was the best because they brought the movie closer to how Batman is supposed to be.

They respected the character more than that idiot Tim "I have never read a comic book" Burton.

First of all Batman (1989) made more with a gross of $413,200,000 World Wide and batman begins made $371,853,783 Gross World Wide. As for the other batman movies like forever and Batman and Robin they just looked stupid with all that neon and they where over the top.

I am just the opposite. I loved the first 2 Batman movies with Michael Keaton, the rest were blah. As for the newest one with Christian Bale, I didn't think it was all that great, esp. the actor for Batman himself. My husband is just the opposite and we have playfully bantered that issue! The Joker and the Penguin and CatWoman were the best in my opinion!

Actually the first Batman was more successful than Batman Begins.
The first 2 were better than the rest, Keaton was the best Batman.

I didn't like "Batman Begins" at all. I think it was the actors that they hired for the movie. They aren't the best. I liked Michael Keaton out of them all. And I like Michelle Pfeifer as Catwoman.

I thought the first two were good, and once Tim Burton left the movies got gay. I really hated the last one. But then again I dont like Katie Holmes.

because they spent much more time into it and realy showing who batman is and not just made up their own version of batman.
In Batman Begins they actualy relate to the comics.
