By the way... Dr. Dre only wrote a few of his stuff, Jay- Z, Nas and Eminem write most of his raps. Easy- E, RIP, neva wrote anything, that was all Ice-Cube. Explain the flop from NWA to... wait what was his follow up album.
Its not fair if you say bone thugs, and the wu cause they are both groups.
Here are my list, favorite and the best.
Favorite
1. Jay-Z
2. Lupe Fiasco
3. Biggie
4. Mos Def
5. Andre 3000 (when he raps)
6. Devin da Dude
7. Kanye West
8. Nas
9. Cee-lo
10. Chamillionaire
Honorable Mention, The Game, Cassidy, Common, Rakim, Snoop, Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Beanie Siegel, Lil Wayne, HAWK (man, i listen to a lot of rappers)
But here is the definite top ten rappers (not thugs, the realest, not beats, just rap and its lyrics, or whateva category most people wanna place in rap)
My Top Ten
1. Lupe Fiasco - I know he is new, but his **** is so mind blowing its crazy. If simplfied the flow it would be bananas, still, Half of his stuff is so confsing to people, they don't understand and think he is just a skateboard rapper. The man's wordplay is crazy for real. Like Jay-Z times Common. FNF Up!
2. Jay-Z- most consistent, if you understand half of the stuff he said and stop hating, no disrespect, you will see too, never writes anything down, gave birth to most of the rappers in the game now. Word game is vicisous.
3. Biggie- Stories are crazy, wordplay, whatever he says you feel it, owns half of the game, as in everybody in the game is either is a mix of him or Pac, or both.
4. Pac- I like Pac, but I think most overate him lyrically. For one Pac, had some deep 'Public Enemy' type stuff. Really its what some of rapping is... revolutionary. Those people who see him as only a thug, are disrespecting him. But as a rapper, he owns half of the game, (thug life, riveting stories), and his wordplay, metaphors and stuff like that were average.
5. Rakim- the father of what is know called rapping. The first real poet on the mic. Every rap ever invented before him was just basic. He inserted metaphors, the flow, the ideas in songs. take your history, he would be higher if he produced more records, but his stuff confuses and make you hit that rewind button a million times.
6. Scarface- Face put his feeling into each song, but just feelin isnt going to make you the best rapper. His lyrics were on point and songs make you think all the time.
7. Cee-lo and Andre 3000, Sorry but they are sort of tied. Both are real deep when they get to rapping, both are from the South, which doesn't mean anything and both are completely twisted wit some wierd but on point music. Listen and really listen (read the words if you have to) to Big Ole Words from Cee-lo, and 3000's song - return of the Gangsta. It will change your perspective.
8. Nas- Should be higher but he was beefin with Jay, just playin. He put the brakes on Jay, and I think he does his best when he is challenged. The man hinself is the missing link of hip hop of the past to the future. Word play is alright, but he is the best storyteller. ever. I Gave You Power, Rewind, and Cant Forget about You are my favorites.
9. Common, Talib Kweli - Should be higher, but this is the best list. Wordplay is great, best hip-hop is alive represnatives, the best backpacker rappers, and if the world was a better place, they would be in the top five.
10. Eminem- Where is he? he sold millions of records, and it all wasnt cause he was the great white hope. the best when it comes to making you laugh, and saying some wierd, twisted stuff.
