This season it depends on if Man U and Chelsea both make it to the FA cup final and if they both do make it 7th in the Prem also gets a UEFA cup slot. The team that finishes eighth in the league may choose if they want to participate if the Intertoto or not if they don't want to the 9th placed team will get the chance. Bolton, Blackburn, Spurs, and Newcastle have all shown interest in playing in the Intertoto cup if they don't qualify for europe directly.

To qualify for the intertoto cup you must finish in the position imediately after the last UEFA CUP spot.
To enter you must apply signifying your interest in participating in the competition.
Should this team decide to opt out then the position becomes vacant and is awarded to any applicant whose association is highest in the association rankings;in this case spain, and so on. Should a second spanish club not have applied then in will go to the second place, England. These teams will start in the first round.( obviously should there be more than one vacancy it will mean one from each.)
It is not a fore gone conclusion that because the 7th place team opts out that the following team takes it´s place.

As it stands its 7th, but if Chelsea and Man utd make it to the FA cup final then it will be the team that finishes 8th as those two would be in europe anyway through the league positions.

intertoto cup is for teams who don't qualify for either champions league or uefa cup.....
the team directly below the final uefa cup spot in the epl.
i think uefa cup goes up to 6th place but i'm not certain.....since i've been watching football which is quite some time, my team man u, does not fight for uefa cup spots so i don't care too much about it.

it does not matter where you finish, as long as newc@stle finish outside the top few, they get the place.
they get it every season now i think, it has become 'their' spot...if they get another two bits of paper then they get to keep them all.
