Totally depends on the college. If you go to a college like USC, or Miami, or Michigan... unlikely.. But if you go to Hawaii, or Ball State, or IU, or other teams like that and smaller, you could probably walk on. You need to be able to play like a beast though.
All lifting is great for running backs... Need to bench and lift with your arms so you can keep that ball close and then stiff arm hard.. Squats will build up your legs greatly, running will build them up too and increase your endurance and breathing capacity..
In other words.. work your butt off in every aspect, then go to walk on tryouts
Good luck

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU CAN RUN AND HAVE AN ABILITY TO READ A DEFENSE ASK THE COACH FOR A SHOT (THEY LIKE THAT ASSERTIVENESS) AND YOU'LL FIND OUT ALL ON YOUR OWN. I RECOMMEND ALOT OF RUNNING, SQUATTING YOU NEED A GOOD BURST OF SPEED TO IMPRESS !GOOD LUCK!
