It may have gotten out. I had a red clawed crab in my aquariuma dn one day he just disappeared. Two months later I was in the basement and I found his remains. I have no idea how he got there.

The smaller would have eaten it. As a hermit crab gets bigger, it needs a bigger shell. So the bigger one moved out of it's old shell into the open. This makes the crab vulnerable. The smaller one was okay in its shell and protected. So the smaller one could have successfully attacked the vulnerable big one.

Did you look inside all the extra shells you keep in your crabitat? Is the top of your crabitat covered? Is it possible he escaped? I'd suggest looking in all the dark places in your house and see if you can find him outside of the crabitat if he's not inside any of the other shells you provide for him and he's not buried under the 3 inches of moist playsand you provide for them.

I had something in my fish tank that disappeared once too, and I never found it. I know it didn't die, and it didn't get out through any holes, so I'm still confused lol. Maybe there's a disappearing fish conspiracy!

Did you look all the way inside the shell? Sometimes they hide in there or change shells. Maybe it got out. Im not sure.

verify they have not purely "disappered" by way of fact they are in a position to't they might have hid, or disoveled by using a good chemical in the water? or hid deep into their shell, in keeping with risk they died??? verify extremely properly.....
