Hi! As a Chinese that live in Beijing, I can tell you this: China is a safe country, you will be welcome and treated with respect by all the people. As a foreigner you will be welcome, the police will not be suspicous of you just because you are non-Chinese. In fact, as long as you don't do something that is too extreme, the police are likely to keep a bind eye to you.

Here are somethings that happened to me ones: On a bus a Chinese took a seat and puted his foot up on another seat. It didn't took long before the ticket seller shouted at him and order him to put his foot where it belonged. Oddly, there was also a foreigner sitting just next to the man doing the same thing, yet he received no comment, not even a polite one.

So I think you get the idea of thing. But just don't over use our friendliness and repact our culture and way of life. Also, don't just come here and start telling the people things like: 'You should overthorwn your govermnet!' or 'Free Tibet!' most Chinese(myself for one) will be offended by things like this.

But other then that you are free to do what you want! You should try so REAL Chinese food and visit our great museums. You realy should come, you can lean a lot by coming. Welcome my friend!!

I guess it depends where do you go in China.
Overall, it will be very interesting. I find Chinese very friendly as long as you don't insult their culture or insult how they live.
They will look different at you because you are not one of them, but it is not gonna be one of those "hate you, get lost look," it will be likely curiosity look.

Prices.....You will see 14 US$ Chinese product in US cost less than 1.4 US$ in China. You can't beat it; it's bargain place. 1 US$ = 7.81155 HKD (Hongkong dollar) -- or -- 1 HKD = .13 US$. The problem with shopping there would be the measurements. if you buy clothes, make sure you try it on. You will find a lot of faux label products and the transportation, whoa, it's crazy. Crazy populations.

Food..make sure you take and carry anti biotic with you or..you may experience "stomach problem." it's not gonna be funny if you have it because bathroom will be your best friend. whoppssssss.

Cops....i don't experience any problem with cops there but the immigration custom (at the airport), when you leave the country, can get you a little bit irritated.

in some places, some people look at foreigners strangely (especially in small rural places), but you should see quite a few foreigners in the bigger cities.

majority stuff there costs cheaper than america (but not cars). one US dollar = about 8 chinese dollars. so if you want to do a quick conversion of a price in rmb, just divide it by 8.

gov't/cops shouldn't be suspicious of you.

weather there is okay, but it depends on where you go. if you were to go the south in the summer, it's like their monsoon season: lots of mosquitoes, sometimes some rain, hot and sticky summers. so if you were to go to china in the summer, go up north where it isn't as hot.
if you were to go up north during the winter, a lot of places would be snowing and temps. can go pretty low.

hope this helped. :]

I am a Chinese ,It depents on where you plan to go. if you go to the rural or small city, the people there usually look at you strangely. if in big city, especially in the costal open cities, the people won't look at you strangely. They just regard you as a common people in the world. The policemen both in city or rural won't be suspicious of you if you don't look like a criminal. China's policemen and people are are much more friendly to you than native Chinese.

China has a progressive government, so there aren't any guards on the towers with their guns on you. I have heard that the Chinese people are VERY curious! There isn't any question they wont ask. Check with your bank to see what the exchange rate is.
