All of the exterior shots are done in FL, the inside shots of the CSI unit etc. are done in Los Angeles, CA.
Only one castmember has a home here in FL and that is David Caruso.
Most of the exterior shots are actually done a few months before the actual episode is shot to take advantage of the weather etc. and sometimes they might to the exteriors 3 months before an episode aired.
He had tried to get the entire production shifted to FL 2 years ago but it did not happen.

I'm pretty sure it's shot in Florida as I know they definitely shoot their exteriors there. If so, the cast has to live there to work everyday, but they could just live in hotels and not homes.
