Well, I am a chemist. To us chemists, Carbon usually forms the longest chains possible, some of which can make up thousands of chains long, for example, plastics, ellastics, these are some examples of long chain carbons. A lot of other elements can form onto the carbon chains as branch offs, things like Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Hydrogen as a few examples. Hope this helps.
