I want to buy a new desktop, but want to buy the better processor.

They are both manufacturers of excellent processors.
I personally prefer AMD although I do own both.
AMD will give you more for the money.
An AMD 4600+ is comparable to an Intel E6400 in overall performance.
There really is no "better" ... they both do exactly the same thing. Some models from one will be faster than some models from the other but that's about it.
Many Fortune 500 companies use both these brands in servers & workstations.
Look for the best "overall" package in a PC ... regardless of whether is has AMD or Intel.
Anything equal to or higher than the 2 processor models mentioned above will not disappoint you ... no matter which brand.

The most powerful consumer desktop processors are the Intel Core 2 Duos.

i was a amd fan. i prefer amd than Intel. the performance for amd is good especially when u play latest games. for latest amd technology you can check at www.amd.com/sg-en/

i use both depending on what i'm mainly using it for. both are about the same for a newbie. viiv deals with chip set and (duo core and single core refer to the processor). get the intel duo core and don't worry with the viiv unless you plan on getting a viiv router or acessories.

I personnel would go with the AMD I love AMD they are very versitial.
