#3. A lot of the tech industry relocated there when MA became too greedy and unfriendly to deal with, so the economy is doing quite well but the housing is still affordable. Still hot and very humid in the summer and a decent chance of being visited by hurricanes once in a while, make sure you stay out of low lying flat lands.

I would choose Raleigh/Durham. It is a beautiful area with a good climate and the cost of housing and living in general is very good. Duke U. and other colleges are nearby so there is an excellent cultural environment. Visit and see what you think.
