Sit them upright on your knee and hold them gently under the chin to support their neck and hold their chin up either rub the childs back in between firmly and softly between the shoulder blades or do the same when patting or combination of both, a lot of times they will burp if they have trouble put them over the shoulder and do the same, sometimes you can do this if your walking or whatever anyway if the child is having trouble put them over your knee.

The right way is what works for you child. Some like over the shoulder others like to go across the lap. No one can say which way is "right" it which way you perfer and which way works for your child. With my daughter light taps worked. With my son harder ones worked but our hands were cuffed sounds worse then it is. Do what works for you if you have more questions that is what your childs dr is there for, you wont look "stupid" believe me you also wont be the first or last person to ask him that question

If you mean burp, putting the baby up over your shoulder and lightly patting their back usually works for most babies. If that does not work, lay them on their belly across your legs and gently pat baby's back. One or the other usually works.

Set the baby on your leg, bend them over just a little and then pat them on the back and if that doesn't work put them up to your shoulder and pat

Mine couldn't burp on her own. I had to hit her back firmly. I also used various poistions.. over the shoulder is the most common. over the knee works good. Also if they still won't burp, curl the knees up to the chest and try

Throw him over your shoulder, with a burp towel of course, and pat him on the back. Or you can hold him under the chin while he sits on your lap and pat his back.
Good luck

The right way to burp your baby is what works for you and them. Rubbing my daughters back works for us.

I would rub their back to get em to burp, but my husband told me recently that he used to press on their tummy a little bit to get it out because they were difficult to burp. my kids are now 2 and 3 and he just told me that a few months ago, lol. daddys have strange ideas
