I am answering this question in the pursuit of truth and am not advocating suicide. Never take a permanent solution to a temporary problem
People have been known to survive a wrist slitting, so what you have to do is sit in a tub of hot water and cut not across the wrist, but down the arm to really open up a vein and make it nearly impossible to stanch the bleeding. You can expire in five minutes.
AGAIN, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

To die you have to actually cut deep enough to hit an artery. These are very far under the skin. Then, massive amounts of blood will spurt out... How long it would take to die would depend on the size of the wounds and whether it was one or both wrists. If you just "slit your wrist" the bleeding will stop long before you'd die. You have to GOUGE your wrist.

Thank goodness you are not going to do this! I don't really know, but Jamie in the first season of 24, slit her wrist, with a mug, and was unconscious in about 5 min, I think. But this is also a TV show, but a TV show occurring in real time. Confusing. I thought the body had about 8 quarts of blood. May be pints, sorry! Just to be sure, don't do this to you or anyone you know!!!!!!

If you cut your wrists across the arm, it will take a long time. If you flay your arm from wrist to elbow, a few minutes. Pain beyond imagining. Shame and grief to your family and friends past what you can comprehend. Plus ending the Game, so to speak, before it's over is a crime against nature no matter what religion you believe in.

I'am sorta of worried about you, because if you're not going to
attempt it----------
WHY WOULD YOU ASK?
Don't say a passing morbid curiousty, because you were a little bit too specfic. Are you alright, if not please try and talk to someone you trust about whatever's bothering you. As a
teen, I had a friend that did that and I found her just in time, and
later she was soooo glad I did. You are not alone even if you think you have an insurmountable problem ok?

slitting your wrist is not a very good way to commit suicide it fails more than half of the time. a person who usually slits their wrist wont bleed out and die before someone finds them and calls 911. slitting a major artery works better. but i beg you although you said that you're just curious dont try to kill yourself. i cant even begin to tell you how many attempted suicides i've treated, and 95% of them say that they regretted their decision to end their life the second that they slit their wrist, popped the pills, etc. please dont do it, instead get help tell your parents, siblings, friends, just find someone to talk to, or even talk to me, email me at sbemt@paramedicine.com please just dont turn a temporary problem into a permanent solution. suicide never solved any problems just created more, your life might not be worth anything to you right now but it is worth something to someone. please think about it.

If you cut the right artery, you will die in a matter of 5-10 minutes. Most people can only tolerate losing a pint of blood before they are even light headed...cutting your wrist can result in up to 3 pints in just a few minutes.

I believe you would have to pretty much cut your hands off, to even die from this. I think you would have better luck, if you did it vertically.
I hope you are just curious, and not thinking about suicide. It is very stupid, and you are being selfish. Slitting your wrists is just about the dumbest thing anyone can do.

I suppose according to what you tell me....if you get exactly where you feel your pulse...it shouldn't take long at all. At MOST absolute MOST i'd say 10 minutes but most of that time you'd be unconcious from blood loss.
