Altho most people think its the old crown, it is in fact the Lad in The lane which was built in 1306, 700 years ago. The Old crown gets more publicity because of its location in the city. It is not however the oldest pub in England, that allegedly goes to a property in St Albans, see link below, altho there are several properties which contest that, especially Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem.
