I had my baby in Sept, started having cyclical cramping in late Nov., spotted in Dec., Jan., and just yesterday. Cramping every two-three weeks (just like my old menstrual cramps), for anywhere from three-10 days at a stretch (some days as bad as when I was having my period).

I should add that my "typical" periods were quite painful each month, and I would cramp for up to a week before I even started...so the length of time I've been cramping has been (regrettably) not out of the usual for me.

I also spoke to my n.p. during my annual visit recently and she assured me that this was "normal". However, what's "normal" and what's "typical" can be two different things...which is why I asked...

You should talk to your doctor about this. Some of its normal but not all of it. I breastfed my children here, and I got cramps & some spotting. But for it to be severe & last for days on end doesnt sound good! Take care of You... see your doctor!
Take care & Best of Luck to you & yours!

Your cycles are going to be pretty all over the place while you're breastfeeding. I suggest starting to chart now, it's the best form of birth control while breastfeeding that doesn't hurt your milk supply. I've had friends who gained tons of weight on the Depo shot, and I've had friends that had diminished milk supply with the mini pill, and you also have to take the mini pill at the same time every day to keep from getting pregnant. With a new baby, that's not always an option.

Totally normal. My son was 18 months old before I got my normal period. i was spotting and crampng but it wasn't until I completely stopped breast feeding until I had a normal period.

Hope this helps.

Well really there is such a wide range of normal when it comes to cycles after pregnancy, particularly if you breastfeed I would have to say yes.
