depends on whether the father is still completely in or out of the picture. if he is then ask if he would like the child to take his name. if not then give the child your name.

Use yours. If the father isn't willing to marry you and be a part of the child's life (making a firm committment), it's best to use your last name. That way you won't have any problems when you fill out forms etc., - if the child has another name, for some official forms they may want the fathers signature even if he's not part of your life anymore and you have no idea where he is.
Best to just go with your last name.

When I had my oldest I was single completely. I did not have his father a part of my life, so I gave him my last name. I am now married & we legally changed his last name to my husbands just after we wed. I as a mother have had this theory that I will never have a different last name then my children. So, even if I was to divorse someday... that I doubt though. I would keep my now last name for my children!!!
But hey, thats just me. If you are still seeing the childs father, & plan on marriage someday then have at it, & give the baby his last name. Its all up to you!
Best of Luck!!!

if there is no option then the baby should carry the name of the mother
if father accepts pregnancy - then the baby should carry the fathers name in order of recognition and shared responsibility

If you are a single mom, and the father does not sign the birth certificate then you have to use your last name.. if he going to take the child as his then it would be his last name...

I named my son with his father's name because one day when it is not actually cheaper to be "legally" unmarried, we'd like to be. My sister got pregnant at the same time in the same situation, and named the child after the father, too. If you don't plan on being married to this guy ever, give him/her the name that is nicest...for example, if your last name is Pfiffenhooter and his is Richmond...be kind to your child!!!

Most single moms I know use their last name. But if you want the child to get child support you will have to put his name on the birth certificate. They will then make the baby's last name his.
Good luck

It is a personal preference. If the father will be involved you may choose to use his name, if not you may choose to use your own.
