Start acting now. If your school has a theatre program, start participating in it. Don't be shy about it either. Put your all into auditioning and performing the role you get. And don't be discouraged when the first roles you get are small ones. You may not even have lines at all. Put yourself into them. Don't walk off stage because you didn't get a big part. Directors frown on that. Stick with it.
Take acting lessons. Take classes in college. Learn all you can about what you want to do. Watch stage performances. Talk to people you know who are involved in acting. Always ask questions. Practice, practice, practice.

Take acting classes for the next 10 or 12 years. After that. Go to college and major in theatre. Get a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre (MFA).

You first need to know how to act and have some background in acting in like MAIN leads, then, you have to find an agent or go audition for local theatre companies.
You should be able to feel the play and understand it ambiguously, and be able to have it memorized. acting is not some fling, it is an actual art form, and to do it properly, many modern actors go without.

Well you have to take acting classes unless you're one of the few rare people who get discovered somehow. But you should take some acting classes and then audition for agents and once you've got one or a few your agent should find auditions for you.
